hotel nights

Thought Process

This a series i took in and out of a hotel i was staying at on assignment for the Youth & Government program.

In the first photo i drastically photo shopped the contrast and made it black and white to create a dramatic effect. It was gloomy and windy that day so I made the trees how i wanted them to be, almost vanishing.

Second photo is actually one of my favorites. I was sitting in the hotel window seal watching the busy world go by. I photoshopped it black and white but left the color for the exterior. I feel this sentence i wrote explains the emotion i was feeling, " As beauty sits, the world continues to breath."

Third, fourth and fifth photo are explaining a 70's hotel scene. I really love the colors of the 70's, washed out yellows, oranges and lime greens. These photos give a peek into the life of a busy hotel woman.

Sixth photo was taken on valentines day. I felt this balloon was so beautiful, just floating, swaying in the wind, creating nothing but silence.

shadows play

Thought Process

Oh man i love, love, love taking photographs of shadows and silhouettes. Its the only thing you can do to capture them. This was taken in my bathroom on a sunny afternoon. Its so stunning and mysterious. It makes me feel so calm and happy with life. Its amazing how much a photograph can change my emotional state of mind.

WINNER FIRST PLACE CALIFORNIA STATE FAIR 2009

Thought Process

This is my family friend. He is an actor featured in many films including the Titanic, he has a great voice and does the Harry Potter movie trailers. He is such a character, and it was fantastic to shoot him. I grabbed lots of hats and costumes, but he wore the cowboy hat perfectly. You can almost see the story in his eyes; a hard working man, who buys roses for his wife every Sunday and drinks fine wine in the evenings.

just a moment

Thought Process

This was a candid moment at my school during lunch. The light was perfect, my friend Jason was in the middle of great laughter, i wanted to capture the trees above him so i angled up. I chose to group tree photos together because it shows such beauty and enjoyment. The human emotion while showing his surroundings of impeccable nature.

trees all around me

This is a photo published by the Huntington Library, San Marino, CA I'm so happy that visitors of the library have a chance to see my work especially in a post card format. Someone is going to get greetings from the museum with my photo on it! This is such an honor.

italia

Thought Process

I shot these in Italy, which is where my father is from and where my relatives live. We were walking on the shores of Bolzena lake and i saw these two shots in my head when i glanced at the boat and the dock. It was gloomy and quite. Usually photos like this are staged or planned but these were not, making them a great experience for me as a photographer.
